Hi, I'm coming close to finishing my motorbike, I've been working almost 2 years on her now.
So I was wondering what you guys would think about it.

The bike when I bought it

The bike as it is right now, it starts and turns perfectly, only have to look at the clutch before starting to drive around

For anyone interested, I'm going to finish it as Canadian royal corps of engineers, part of an armored division.

comments are always welcome.

Grtz, Erwin.

Parts are still easy to find, because they actually used the same parts on motorbikes until into the sixties.
It's not quite the cheapest hobby.

Cost me 2500 euros to buy it, and about another 1000 euros that I have spent now to get it running and restored.
It's not finished yet, so I guess I'll be around 4500 euros in total when it's finished. You can find restored motorbikes like these for 4000 euros, but I like the fact that I did it all myself.
You don't see that too often with an IT specialist :P

I'm like the only one in the entire company that's got oil stains on his hands from time to time ;)

Next to this I also got a willys jeep on which I'm about to start the restoration. It's complete but it needs a complete overhaul.

Anyone interested in what I do can go here: http://www.reenactment.be
It's kind off BF1942 or actually Forgotten Hope to be more exact in RL :)

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll post some others when I get to drive it for the first time if you want.

Update of the motorbike: it's closed to being finished right now, I ordered the last crucial pieces this week (got my end of year bonus at work :)).
I'm planning on celebrating new year's with it. Me and my mate (has a Harley Davidson WLA) will go on a weekend with other friends, gonna drive around a bit, and do a night game with vehicles. Gonna be nice I think :P

Right now my jeep is mostly taken apart, I'll be sandblasting that one in January, am doing a complete overhaul since it started to rust here and there.

So enough chit chat, on with the pictures (don't know what happened to the previous ones though)
This is how it looks at this point:

I'll get you guys some pictures of my jeep project too in a while.
Hopes you like it
bye!

In february I'll be having it for 2 years, but I didn't have the time and money to work continously on it. And then again you have to find the pieces before you can use them :)
If all goes well, I'll be mounting the last needed pieces this week (they haven't arrived yet), and celebrating new years eve with this baby along with my mate and his harley davidson WLA (he's 19 years old, thing costs like 15000 euros, he found one for 9000 in perfect state).
Without those last pieces I won't be able to go with her, because I tried cold starting it yesterday, and without the choke there's no way of keeping it running until it's warmed up.
The dynamo is in the package also, so I will finally have some lights going on.

I hoped the pieces would arrive today since I'm on leave tomorrow and wednesday, but no chance yet. And I really need to look at my regular car, I think my brakes are almost gone, or I broke one of the bearings in the front wheels.

It stays an expensive hobby ;)
Anyway my next project will be a gmc cckw 352 after I finish my willys.

This is the type of gmc I want, only with a wooden tub in stead of an iron one. Unlucky for me I only know about 2 of these babies, 1 is with one of my friends (has 26 or 27 vehicles !!) and he'll never sell it. And the other one is going to be ripped apart by some stupid guy wanting to use the tub for his chevy truck (the chevy tub is not at all the same, and never had the wooden version).
So I'm trying as hard as I can to prevent this, I even said I would find him the correct chevy tub to put on.
It would crush my heart everytime I'd see his chevy.

well I should, it's my passion :) been in this world since I was 6 or so, my dad would take me to meetings with his own truck.
Now it's kinda becoming the inverse ;)
I'm offering my parents a weekend in a hotel where we're gonna have a rally, I even arranged a closed Dodge Pannel truck with a heater (man is going to be 66). You should have seen his face when I told him.

I'm proud to say that I know a lot of people in this little world of it's own, so if I need something there's always someone who happens to know everything about it.
people asked me to explain this hobby of mine before, but it kind of is unexplainable (if that word exists). The friendship of fellow collectors, the parties, the shows, everything is magic when I'm on a meeting.
The satisfaction you get out of the total it's incredible....

If someone should be interested just go look up some information from within your neighborhood and go look at some meetings, but be carefull, once you get in, you'll never get out.
It's worse than drugs, but luckily enough it's much healthier :)

Thanks for the replies guys,
I'll see if I can get some pictures of the new year's weekend to post in here.
You'll finally see the face behind the "inactive" skinner :)

Grtz, Ert.

Really random story here.

I was installing windows xp on my old computer and had only one mouse and keyboard so i said f**k that after about half an hour or switching back and forward and went out to my dads garage (he works out of it) and I found this laying in there. ;)

lol omfg, is this the first time you ever got into that garage?
that's quite a beauty that kubel.
Although I'm more into allied vehicles, I like the german ones too.

Last friday I managed to officially import my motorbike into Belgium.
So this week I'll contact the assurance and get it read for the road.
I'm also gonna do my theoretical exam for the drivers license soon.

I'm probably going to support a convoy with 2 other friends (both have a Harley Davidson WLA) beginning of february.
And I got almost half the money saved up that I will need to pay for my drivers license.

I'm going to change work sometime in february/march too.
I do wonder if I'll have time left to work on the mod then...
Another company offered me a hell of a lot of more, to go work for other companies... company car ! ;)

back on topic, I cleaned and repaired my bike yesterday, gonna do a good test run to set up the carburator the right way next week.
I'll try and post some pictures of the work on my jeep too then.

Grtz.

Lol nah I worked in that garage the hole summer my brothers custom mini was normally put inside at night. My dad was doing that thing for MOT rofl. :|

First time I've seen a WW2 vehicle up close for real, makes me want to see more there really amazing looking and so different from todays cars. Also bigger than what I thought they would of been, too much battlefield 1942 probably. xD

I'll be waiting on them pictures. ;)

hehe be careful, before you realise it, you're going to be in deep !
I started out playing with plastic soldiers, then I went to one of these rally's and I was sold... was about 7 or 8 my first time.
Didn't take long before I started collecting WWII clothing and material....
Now I'm collecting WWII vehicles....
maybe within some years an airplane or so ;)

Hehe, think I'll just look at them for now but would defiantly be sweet to own a few things like that.

Your going to need some amount of room to keep airplanes lol ;)
