Founded by L’etranger in late 2002 the development of Interstate 1982 for Battlefield 1942 was already well underway in 2003. A First release was made in August the same year. Later TheFlyingCorpse (founder of IS Nitro) started on the team as a mapper and later as a lead tester, organizing the testing of the final two releases by the original team which got good reviews by the community. The final 1.8 build was released July 2004.

The project was said to be continued in early 2005 as Interstate 82 Extended. New content should be added to the original release but a downloadable version never surfaced.

Interstate 2004

In late 2003 Interstate 2004 was founded by Michael S. Siebert. It was to be a up-to-date Total Conversion Modification for Battlefield Vietnam, promising new sports cars, crazy autocombat and everything the community that loves IS82 for Bf42 wanted. The development went slowly so it was joked that it would become Interstate 2005, then later 2006, which turned out to be true in that it never got out, developers soon left the mod to find other projects to work on.

Interstate 2

Out of Interstate 1982 Extended Interstate 2 was formed in 2005, which was meant as a Total Conversion Modification for Battlefield 2, in the same style as Interstate 1982 for BF42 was. Interstate 2 had only one developer from the original IS82 team still around.

Interstate 76

During  the upcoming months, a fellow team of developers emerged striving to do the same, just based on the Interstate ’76 ideas.
In November 2005 the two mods formed alliances to better reach their common goal. It was then called under the same name you see here today, Interstate Nitro.

Interstate Nitro

Founded in 2006 all of the original developers and founders are gone by now (2010). So are the original contents which were put into trash due to the lack of quality.

In the last quarter of 2008 ,under the new lead of Phatty2x4 and Cassio, the decision was made to start from scratch with high quality contents and the possibility in mind to switch to a next-gen engine creating a full game.
